There are so many dog friendly things to do in the Sutherland Shire. From beautiful stretches of leash free sandy beaches, walking trails, local farmers markets, cafes, breweries and more. Bring your fur baby, enjoy your break and have a ball together.

Pooch-Friendly Beaches and Off-Leash Areas

Let your pup feel the sand between their paws or even go for a doggie paddle at one of 3 dog friendly beaches across the Sutherland Shire. There’s also 6 off-leash parks in the Shire where dogs can roam free until their heart’s content.

Please check the details for each site for specific dog off leash times and other regulations. *Please note that some of these walks are on the fringe of a National Park – please note that dogs are not allowed inside any NSW National Parks.

Walks

The Shire’s favourite walks follow the coastline, passing stunning beaches, rockpools, parks & cafes. There’s always plenty of spots to stop and enjoy a pat along the way and enjoy the views no matter which walk you choose.

Cronulla Esplanade – Sutherland Shire’s most popular and iconic scenic walk stretching 4kms one way.  Stroll along the vibrant esplanade with plenty of smells for your pooch to follow as well as plenty of place to stop and enjoy the superb views.

Woronora River Bridge Walk – Suspended beneath the northern rim of the Woronora River Bridge, this stunning walkway and cycleway offers fabulous unobstructed views along the Woronora River and to the bushland and water below. This is a beautiful walk or cycle for all ages and fitness levels and is accessible for wheelchairs, scooters and pooches! (As long as you dog isn’t scared of heights this is a great 1 hour walk!)

Restaurants & Cafes

There are so many quality restaurants and cafes across the Shire to enjoy a meal with your favourite furry friend! There may even be a puppuccino or a biscuit in it for well-behaved fur babies.

Pubs & Breweries

Share a drink with your best mate, of the fury four-legged variety, at one (or all) of the three fabulous local breweries. The Shire is also lucky to have a particularly dog friendly tavern with a great beer garden, perfect for all type of of babies, fur and the human kind to have fun.

Other Dog Friendly Activities

Have some fun with your fury friend. Wander the Shire Farmers Markets, browse Botanica Lane with coffee in hand, let your pooch be co-captain as you kayak down the Woronora River or even take your pooch on the ferry from Cronulla to Bundeena.

Shire Farmers Market – Stroll through these fabulous foodie markets, held every Saturday morning from 8am to 1pm in Sutherland’s Flora Street Carpark, the markets are full of fresh produce and unique products from independent makers. Pick up your weekly groceries and a treat for yourself and your best mate too. 

The Boatshed Woronora – Four-legged visitors are very welcome to come along and share your adventure. If you would like to dine at the cafe please add a note in the online booking that you will have your fur baby with you. Also be sure to bring a life jacket for your pup if they are not a strong swimmer. (Please note: The Boatshed will have a soft opening from 25 – 31 August, for this first week it will be walk-ins only, no bookings. From 1 September please use their online booking system.)

Botanica Lane – Let your fury friend explore a hidden jungle! Botanica Lane welcomes all your fury friends to join you while you stroll through their oasis, filled with lush plants and gorgeous designer pots. 

Cronulla Ferries – All aboard! Dogs are welcome on the iconic little green and gold ferry that travels between Cronulla and Bundeena. Catch the ferry over to Bundeena, grab a bite to eat and play at Horderns Beach in the dog off leash area (check here for the times dogs are allowed on the beach).

Accommodation

After a day of fun, put your feet up and retire for the night with your pooch blissfully by your side at one of our pet friendly accommodation options.

Sutherland Motel – Welcomes fur babies of any size, with dedicated dog friendly rooms and enclosed grassy area onsite for a little play. 

Quest Cronulla Beach – Please call Quest Cronulla Beach directly before booking, as there maybe restrictions in place regarding the number of dogs staying and the size of the dog. Please note this is subject to hotel availability.
